Qazvin is the most ancient and alive garden city of IRAN
Qazvin has been recognized as a city surrounded by green gardens and its vineyards.These traditional gardens formation time turns back to Sassanid era, and now about 2500 hectares of them are still alive at three sides of the city. NasirKhusraw, the famous travel writer and poet,has written about them: “I arrived in Qazvin; there were a lot of vineyards with no fence or barrier to entry. I found it very nice”.
Pistachio, almond and apricot are the main product of these gardens with the trees up to 500 years old or more.
One characteristic of these traditional gardensis the watering method. The structurelooks like a square or rectangular ponds for saving and storing rain water that mostly comes in flood form, from Alborz mountain chain in the north of the city during February to May, then protect the city from unexpected damages. So the gardens would have been irrigated once a year and is a unique way of irrigation over thousands of years and a good type of sustainable agriculture.
Also, mechanicallife causes many problems like air pollution and nobody can deny the role and value of these gardens on ecosystem, healthy and standard weather conditions.
Considering these unique features, it can be named as a man-made green heritage museum in IRAN.
